Welcome Back Letter September 5, 2018 Dear Students, Parents, and Loved Ones, Welcome to Fourth Grade! We hope you have had an enjoyable summer, and are looking forward to an exciting year of learning and fun. This year at Woodcrest is likely to be your most challenging and rewarding yet. We can’t wait to meet and get to know everyone in our class this year! Many interesting and exciting opportunities await you. Throughout the next few days, we will review and discuss much of what you need to know to be successful in fourth grade, and we’ll begin important work for school and life. On Wednesday evening, September 26th, Woodcrest Elementary School will host its 60th annual Back-to-School Night. Grade 4 Parents are welcomed to a general meeting with the Principal and PTA President at 6:30. Our classroom presentation is scheduled from 7:45 - 8:15. We will be able to answer many of your questions then; however, please feel free to contact us via note, phone, or e-mail at [email protected] or [email protected] with any questions, comments, or interesting discussion points you may have. Also, feel free to explore our class' website at https://weroom35.weebly.com/! There are many great resources, as well as areas that will give you an idea of things to come! A little about Mr. Skalski...
,This picture is a couple of years old, but it captures our family perfectly! Besides my love of teaching, there is nothing I enjoy more than spending time with my wife, Mandy, and our children. From left to right in the picture, we have Jude (now 7), Gwenna (9), Jillian (8), and Jaime (10). We enjoy the outdoors, love getting out into nature, and especially cherish our days down at the warm and sunny shore. We have two dogs, Annie and Summer, and a big cat we call Finn.
Since graduating Rowan University at the "turn of the century" in 2000, I have been fortunate and grateful to spend the past 17 years at Woodcrest School, where I have primarily taught 5th Grade until the opportunity arose to transition to 4th Grade this year. Knowledge of the curriculum, as well as experience with children and families has enabled me to employ not only an academically rigorous learning environment, but also a fun one! Just as I expect of my students and children, I am never done learning! As a parent and educator, I believe the home/school partnership is one of the most important components in children's lives. I am always here to help, or even just listen!
I'm sure as I tell my personal story throughout the year, you will find out much more about me! Most importantly though, creating a "family" feel in our class; one that promotes risk-taking, empathy, teamwork, and overall academic excellence for each and every student is my central charge.
I look forward toward working with each and every one of you as partners in acquiring the skills and concepts essential to our education and future endeavors.
Be well,
Mr. Michael Skalski

A little about Mrs. Springswirth... |
I am so excited to be joining the Woodcrest family this year! I can't believe it is my 13th year as a full time teacher. Before Woodcrest, I taught in private schools in Moorestown, NJ, and Annapolis and Baltimore, MD. As a Cherry Hill resident, I am thrilled to be a part of CHPS.
My family was very supportive of my move to public school. I have a daughter in second grade, as well as a two-year-old son. My husband is a Nurse Manager in the Operating Room. As a family, we stay very busy. With an undergraduate degree in theater, I love to attend both local community productions and Broadway shows. I also stage manage and direct when the opportunity presents itself. In the summer, my family loves to travel, especially on a cruise ship!
Teaching has always been a passion for me. I believe enthusiasm and a positive attitude are key to sparking the interest of young learners. I hope to lead students on a path of lifelong learning. Even in fourth grade, it is important to develop the academic and social skills necessary for college and career readiness.
I look forward to all the fun and challenges that we will face in Room 35 this school year.
Take care,
Mrs. Becky Springswirth
